How can the economy be sustained in a scenario where roads have been removed? An important issue to consider is the basic transport of good and services in and out of the CBD.
It is unlikely that trucks will be replaced any time soon, so how will goods be transfered from the road network into a district that is fully pedestrian orientated?
A possible solution that was thought of during brainstorming was to use the PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) network.
Why Consider PRT for the transportation of goods?
- High frequency
- Can travel more diverse locations than other non-road options
- Stations can be built within existing buildings
- Vehicles can make tight turns around and within existing structures
- Vehicles travel to specific destinations rather than having to make frequent stops along the way
- PRT networks already in use (Masdar City, UAE and Heathrow Airport, London)
- Vehicles can be modified for freight. \/
